Michael Kirby is the District Activities and Civic Programs Committee Chairman for the Long Cane District.   Michael comes to us from Anderson where he obtained the rank of Eagle. He has been involved in Scouting for many years. He is both humbled and excited to work with such a great district who provides enriching and engaging activities for the youth throughout the year.

He is very proud to be a teacher at Woodfields Elementary School in Greenwood, SC.  He is also the recipient of the Exploring Silver Award, the Order of the Arrow's Founder Award, a Vigil Honor member of OA Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge #185, and the Order of the Arrow's Distinguished Service Award.

Every year, the Boy Scouts of America celebrates the official founding date of this wonderful organization with various activities and events.
The Annual Awards Banquet (properly, the Long Cane District Annual Adult Leaders Recongition Dinner) honors the volunteerism, the committment, and dedication of the many wonderful volunteer Scouters who make things happen for our youth in Abbeville and Greenwood counties of Upstate South Carolina.  This night pays homage to these wonderful folks!
Scouting For Food is a national iniative of the Boy Scouts of America and the Long Cane District is proud to be involved in this service project, which benefits the Greater Greenwood United Ministries Food Bank program.  The event, is held during the first two Saturdays during the month of February.
The Good Turn For America program is a national iniative of the Boy Scouts of America and the Long Cane District is proud to be involved in this wonderful service opportunity.  This iniative spurs Scouting activities and programs to provide service projects that benefit the communities of Abbeville and Greenwood; located in upstate South Carolina.  Scouts and Adult volunteers from the Long Cane District log in hundreds of hours devoted to community service each year.
