What do we do in Cub Scouting?

 
  Den Meetings / Den Activities:

Image used with permission.Your son will meet weekly with a group of other boys who are in his grade. This provides him a chance to make new friends and do new activities with a close group of friends.

 
  Pack Meetings:

Image used with permission.This is a meeting for all Cub Scouts and parents to get to gather to recognize their sons for the achievements they have accomplished during each month. Skits, songs and plays are just a few activities during a Pack meeting.

All Rights Reserved.  Image used with permission.Large pack meeting in February where families come together to celebrate the birthday of the Cub Scout program. Most will hold a potluck, an ice cream and cake social or cater food for the event. Advancement programs and skits are the main attraction of the night.

 
Scouting For Food is an annual service project conducted by Scouting units all across the United States.  Scouting For Food is the single largest initiative of the Boy Scouts of America; collecting hundreds of tons of food each year for those in need in communities all across our nation. Image used with permission.A service project held during the first two Saturdays in February.   Over 1,000 Scouts have collected over 500,000 pounds of food, thus far, to benefit the Great Greenwood United Ministries Food Bank in Greenwood, South Carolina.  Scouting for Food is the largest national service project for the Boy Scouts of America.

 
The Long Cane District Pinewood Derby is held during the month of February of each year at the Greenwood Mall in Greenwood, South Carolina.  This is an open competion, meaning that any REGISTERED Cub Scout, from the Long Cane District, may enter the competition.  Pinewood Derby Races:

The Long Cane District Pinewood Derby is held during the month of February of each year at the Greenwood Mall in Greenwood, South Carolina.  This is an open competion, meaning that any REGISTERED Cub Scout, from the Long Cane District, may enter the competition.Pack competition where the Cub Scout makes a racing car for competition.  The District Pinewood Derby competition (which ANY registered Cub Scout in the Long Cane District, may enter) is held every year in February at the Greenwood Mall.

 
Cub Scout Day Camp is held in June of every year for young men in the 1st - 5th grades.  This week-long experience of weekday camping (no overnight camping permitted), is a mixture of games, crafts, BB guns, archery, mountain (wall) climbing, and advancement that will not only keep Cub Scouts busy having fun --- but if they are not careful --- they might actually learn something!  The camp is usually held at Camp Epworth.  Cub Scout Day Camp:

Cub Scout Day Camp is an opportunity for young men from the counties of Abbeville and Greenwood, located in the upstate of South Carolina to come together and enjoy a weeklong weekday day camp full of exciting things to do.  They mountain (wall) climb, shoot archery and BB guns, play games and do crafts, work on their advancment, and many other wonderful things at Camp Epworth.  The Cub Scout Day Camp happens in June of every year, usually at Camp Epworth.  This year, we had 75 Cub Scouts, and many volunteers who enjoyed a week of wonderful activities.  Photo (c) 2007. Involves games, crafts, skills, nature, archery and, at some locations, BB gun instruction. This past year, we had 75 Cub Scouts from Abbeville and Greenwood counties in upstate South Carolina participate in a week-long fun-filled "SAFARI"-themed adventure jammed-pack with lots of fun and exciting things to do.

 
Cub - Parent Weekends are usually during the weekend in the fall at the Blue Ridge Council's official Scout Reservation, Camp Old Indian.  This two-day event (either Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday) allows a Cub Scout and a parent or guardian to experience camping in a three-sided cabin and enjoy various activities together for a few days during the autumn months.  Cub - Parent Weekends:

Cub-Parent Weekends are an exciting time for both Parent and Cub Scout at Camp Old Indian.  Spending the weekend shooting archery, learning about BB gun safety, doing crafts, games, and just spending family time together --- that is what Cub / Parent Weekends are for ! Yeah !A Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday camping overnight for the Cub Scout and his mom, dad or guardian to experience camping as a Cub Scout for the first time. Seven weekends are available during the months of October - December and are held at Camp Old Indian Scout Reservation, near Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

 
Webelos Resident Camp is a four-day overnight camping experience for the Webelos Cub Scout, who is in the 4th or 5th grade at Blue Ridge Council's official Scout Reservation, Camp Old Indian.  They, along with their Webelos Den Leader, parents, and other Cub Scout Leaders will enjoy a wide-range of activities from BB guns to archery; from games to crafts; from cooking over a fire to camping overnight in a tent.  There are a lot of wonderful things that happen during a Webelos Cub Scout Resident Camp experience.  Come find out for yourself !!!  Webelos Resident Camp:

Webelos Resident Camp is a time where Webelos Cub Scouts (young men in the 4th or 5th grade) get together with their Webelos Den Leader, parents, and other Cub Scout Leaders for a 4-day long camping experience at Camp Old Indian; the official Scout Reservation for the Blue Ridge Council.  This event, normally held during the first full week in June of each year offers the Webelos Cub Scout the opportunity to experience things ranging from cooking over a campfire to camping overnight in a tent; from shooting BB guns and archery to hiking the scenic areas around camp; from games and crafts to swimming and canoeing. Image used with permission.A week-long (well, almost a week) of overnight camping at the Blue Ridge Council's Scout Reservation, Camp Old Indian.  The Cub Scouts, who are in the 4th and 5th Grades; along with their Webelos Den Leaders, parents, and other leaders in their pack enjoy a time of fun-adventure-and-exploring at one of the best camping facilities in the area!  They not only get a chance to camp out overnight in tents, but they take a nature hike, cook over a fire, shoot archery and BB guns, and learn new and wonderful things.  The Webelos Cub Scouts also get to work on various crafts and advancement while at camp.

Every year, the Boy Scouts of America celebrates the official founding date of this wonderful organization with various activities and events.
The Annual Awards Banquet (properly, the Long Cane District Annual Adult Leaders Recongition Dinner) honors the volunteerism, the committment, and dedication of the many wonderful volunteer Scouters who make things happen for our youth in Abbeville and Greenwood counties of Upstate South Carolina.  This night pays homage to these wonderful folks!
Scouting For Food is a national iniative of the Boy Scouts of America and the Long Cane District is proud to be involved in this service project, which benefits the Greater Greenwood United Ministries Food Bank program.  The event, is held during the first two Saturdays during the month of February.
The Good Turn For America program is a national iniative of the Boy Scouts of America and the Long Cane District is proud to be involved in this wonderful service opportunity.  This iniative spurs Scouting activities and programs to provide service projects that benefit the communities of Abbeville and Greenwood; located in upstate South Carolina.  Scouts and Adult volunteers from the Long Cane District log in hundreds of hours devoted to community service each year.
