DISTRICT'S 2009 ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET |

With
a
FEW DAYS
to go, The 2009 Annual Awards
Banquet and January Roundtable will be held
this Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Main Street
United Methodist Church's Social Hall.
We will recognize individuals in our
district who have gone "above and beyond"
their duties as Scouting volunteers!
We will present (among other things),
Scoutmaster of the Year award, the
Silver Akela award (Cubmaster of the
Year award), Boy Scout Leader of the Year
award, Cub Scout Leader of the Year award,
"Spark Plug" award, and the
District Award of Merit.
We will also recognize those Scouters who
have received Training Awards during the
past year. The Eagle Scout class of
2008 will also be recognized. |

We are attempting to
get a head-count for the Awards Banquet and
need to know how many people will be coming
to this very special event. Please

RIDGE COUNCIL "JURASSIC" POW-WOW |
|

Saturday is the date! Central
Wesleyan College, in Central, South Carolina
is the place! Every year, the Blue
Ridge Council plays host to its annual
"Pow-Wow" training course for Cub Scout
Leaders. We once again will be having
the event at Central Wesleyan College in
Central, South Carolina. Events range
from "Cub Grub," (cooking for Cub Scouts) to
Derbys and Regattas (Pinewood Derbys and
Raingutter Regattas). It will be a
fun-filled day of learning and adventure
that YOU don't want to miss! This
training opportunity is the highlight of Cub
Leader training --- and it is ALL "hands on"
with the emphasis on F-U-N!!! |

The
registration fee ($25/person) and form is
due to the Blue Ridge Council office by
December 30, 2008 to insure you get the
classes you want.
The fee
includes handouts, a limited-edition Pow-Wow
patch, and lunch (we will be having a "Blue
and Gold" dinner).

2008
CENTENNIAL QUALITY UNIT AWARD |
|
|
It
is that time of year again when each Cub
Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Venturing Crew,
and Exploring Post in our district review
their goals and objectives for the next
upcoming year. Each Unit Leader
(Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, or Advisor) is
asked to get together with their Unit
Commissioner and go over the requirements
for the Centennial Quality Unit Award.
Awards (see picture above) are available who
have completed the requirements for the 2008
Centennial Quality Unit Award. |

COMMISSIONER COLLEGE INFORMATION NOW

The
26th session of the Southern Region Area 5's
Piedmont-Appalachian College of Commissioner
Science will be conducted at Ridgecrest in
Black Mountain, North Carolina from May 20 -
22, 2009. This is a new location for
the Commissioner College. All
Commissioners (Unit Commissioners, District
Commissioners, Assistant District
Commissioners, Roundtable Commissioners ---
including Roundtable Staff) are encouraged
to attend this very exciting training
opportunity! Information about the

WOODBADGE
COURSE TO BE OFFERED |
|
|
The Blue Ridge Council will be
hosting a Woodbadge training course in the
Spring of 2009. Space is limited to
only 48 Scouters.
A
$50 deposit is required. Information

FEBRUARY
ROUNDTABLE ---- DATE CHANGE |
|
|
The Blue
Ridge Council will have its annual Council
Recognition Dinner on Thursday, February 12,
2009, to coincide with SCOUT WEEK ---
the night that WE, the Long Cane District
normally have OUR monthly Roundtable
meetings! The members of the Key 3, in
consultation with the Roundtable
Commissioner, have decided to hold the
February, 2009 Roundtable meeting a week
earlier --- on February 5, 2009. Same
time, same location --- just a week earlier!

|
February is
RE-CHARTERING month, so all units
need to get their Unit Charters sent to the
Council Service Center BEFORE the end
of February, 2009 so that it can be
processed on time. There is a new and
exciting fundraising opportunity for each
and every Scouting unit in our district that
we will be talking about during the
Roundtable. |

you are a volunteer Scout Leader in the Long
Cane District
(Cub Scout Den Leader/Assistant
[Tiger/Wolf/Bear/Webelos], Assistant
Cubmaster, Cubmaster, Pack Committee Chair
or member, Assistant Scoutmaster,
Scoutmaster, District Committee Member, Unit
Commissioner, District Commissioner, Troop
Committee Chair or member)
then you need to send in your completed
Training Award forms (also referred to as
Scorecards) to
Roundtable Commissioner Dale Moseley
as soon as possible. We would like to
be able to present these certificates to
worthy Scout Leaders who have taken the next
step in their training, at our annual Awards
Banquet this coming Thursday (Jan. 8, 2009).. Feel free
